Greener Living
Totnes has a chronic shortage of public open space. Our proposals include approximately 12 acres of green fields overlooking the River Dart to be opened up for public amenity.
With space for walkers, children’s play areas, wildlife areas, meadows, orchards and approximately an acre of kitchen gardens, this will be a significant and wonderful addition for the whole community.
Permissive foot and cycle paths, such as the Ashprington link, will become permanent. A new riverside walk and public plaza will connect with the open space and footpaths beyond.
Sustainability
We aim for Baltic Wharf to be an exemplar site for sustainability. It is already one of the most sustainable development sites in Totnes. It will not use up the town’s green fields and is a short level walk to the town centre.
Baltic Wharf’s natural advantages will be further enhanced with:
- Innovative travel plan arrangements offering a range of alternatives to car use
- Co-housing scheme which promotes sustainable and communal living
- Sustainability Living Centre to promote sustainable living to the public
- Live work units to enable people to live and work on site
- High standard of home insulation to minimise energy use and running costs
- Green technology such as photovoltaic cells and biomass boilers for heat and power
